Assimilating the brushing technique
The child patient is a special patient under training. Brushing is taught to children by explaining and demonstrating brushing techniques on special models, so your child may visualize the movements he/she needs to learn. The sooner he/she is aware of the importance of brushing and he learns how to wash properly both his milk teeth and his future final teeth, as an adult, he will benefit from enviable health.
In our dental office, children undergo impregnations for dental plaque in order to highlight the sports where they do not wash properly, so the child and the parent realize how well or how poorly the child is brushing his/her teeth. This exercise can be easily done at home with the use of methylene blue, easily accessible and easy to use. It is recommended to use it in the evening, because of the colors that can appear on the oral mucosa.
After impregnation, the child benefits from a professional dental brushing, followed by the sealing of the molars, in patients who are over 6 years old, and by fluoridation.
Fluoridation
Fluoridation is primarily indicated for children aged 6 to 16 years, as this is the period when permanent teeth are formed. However, adults may also benefit from this prophylactic treatment.
There are also some diseases that show high risk of cavities, such as dry mouth syndrome or gum disease.
Persons with caries predisposition.
Patients with dental restorations or orthodontic appliances.
The fluoridation treatment can be done 3-4 times a year and the procedure is very simple: after a professional hygiene, the doctor applies on the teeth special solutions, gels or lakes with a high fluoride content for a time of 1 – 2 minutes. After treatment, the patient should not rinse the mouth or consume solid food and liquids for 30 minutes.
Dental sealants
The dental sealant is a method of preventing tooth decay in premolars and molars, especially in children who fail to efficiently sanitize dental ditches. A barrier that seals the ditches of teeth that have just erupted, ditches where decays are prone to appear, is applied, and all the materials used are enriched with fluoride. As it is a very smooth film, each sealant is checked every three months to ensure its sealing and, if it is missing or discontinued, the sealant is replaced.
Treatment of milk teeth
Milk teeth, even if they have an ephemeral life on the dental arcades, also require care from the dentist because of the infectious issues that may occur, as well as of the issues related to orthodontics – preservation of the area for the final teeth, thus preventing dental crowding and malpositioning.
The cavities that occur in milk teeth are different in evolution from those of the adult patient, as they evolve more aggressively. A small cavity, untreated in a timely manner, may easily cause dental abscesses, and the treatment of these complications is much worse due to the pains that the child feels compared to a cavity, and in addition, it also requires antibiotic treatment.
In our medical office, children are taught by playing of the necessity of dental brushing, and small cavities are treated, applying colorful obturations for their pleasure, as a reward for good behavior.
Extraction of milk teeth
Milk teeth are extracted if they move, when the final tooth is already erupting, if the final teeth erupt in a wrong position and the milk tooth or, in the case of abscessed milk teeth, where it is considered to be more necessary to remove the infectious factor than the need to keep the milk tooth on the arch. The child is given local anaesthesia with Lidocaine, or, where necessary, anaesthesia is administered by injecting an aesthetic solution around the tooth to be extracted.
