Complete orthodontic treatments

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with straightening the crooked position of teeth using orthodontic braces.

Orthodontics addresses both aesthetics and functionality. Dental crowding and an incorrect bite are not only unsightly, but also affect the health of the teeth, gums and temporomandibular joint over time.

Poor chewing can have undesirable consequences for the teeth, the TMJ, the masticatory muscles, and the health of the digestive tract.

In our clinic, you benefit from a full range of orthodontic services, including the latest innovations, such as invisible braces known as aligners.

When do orthodontic problems occur?

Orthodontic problems are common in children and adolescents. Parents need to pay close attention to their children’s teeth, guide them and teach them the essentials of oral hygiene, so that they develop good eating habits and avoid unwanted dental procedures later on.

Orthodontics has no age limit. We can treat children as young as infants and adults as old as 50. The earlier we treat the problem, the more options we have.

In children, until around the age of 12, when all the baby teeth are replaced by permanent teeth, orthodontic treatment with removable appliances can be carried out. The success of these treatments depends very much on the child’s cooperation and conscientiousness in wearing the appliance.

Fixed appliances are recommended for permanent dentition after the age of 12. These appliances have spectacular results in correcting dental-maxillary anomalies regardless of age, giving you a beautiful and healthy smile.

Advances in orthodontic technology now make it possible to meet all aesthetic requirements. These range from metal braces bonded to the buccal surface of the teeth to highly aesthetic ceramic braces made of tooth-colored materials, almost invisible sapphire braces with transparent and exceptionally hard brackets, and the new, completely invisible aligners.

Orthodontic treatment with aligners

One of the most effective orthodontic treatments is using invisible braces, also known as aligners. These aligners are, in fact, the new generation of braces – transparent, custom-made dental appliances that fit snugly over your teeth. They gradually move the teeth into the desired position, resulting in a straighter, more aligned smile.

Aligners are virtually invisible compared to traditional braces, providing an unobtrusive option for those who are concerned about orthodontic treatment’s aesthetic implications.

What does an orthodontic treatment plan with aligners look like

The process of using aligners begins with a thorough evaluation by your orthodontist. He or she will examine the patient’s teeth and jaws and evaluate X-rays, photographs, and impressions. The records are then used to create a 3D digital model of the patient’s mouth.

This is where the dental scanner comes in – a state-of-the-art device that captures precise digital impressions of teeth and gums. This eliminates the need for traditional, unpleasant, and uncomfortable impressions, making the process more comfortable for patients. The digital impressions are then used to create a virtual treatment plan, showing the gradual movement of teeth according to the plan.

Once the treatment plan is completed, a set of custom aligners is created for the patient. The number of aligners varies from patient to patient. Each set is worn for a specific period, usually about two weeks, before replacing the next set in the series. The aligners gently and gradually move the teeth into the desired position, guided by the treatment plan.

The benefits of aligners

One of the key advantages of aligners is their convenience. They are removable, allowing patients to eat, drink, brush properly, and floss without restrictions. This means there are no dietary limitations and maintaining oral hygiene is easier than traditional fixed braces. However, it is important to note that aligners should be worn at least 20-22 hours daily for optimal results.

The aligners are also known for their effectiveness. They can address many orthodontic issues, including dental crowding, spacing, and bite issues. The length of treatment varies depending on the complexity of the case, but on average, it takes between 6 and 18 months to achieve the desired results. Your orthodontist must consult with you regularly to monitor progress and make adjustments if necessary.

In addition to their aesthetic benefits, aligners can also positively impact oral health. Straighter teeth are easier to clean, reducing the risk of plaque buildup, tooth decay, and gum disease. Correctly aligned jaws can also alleviate problems such as jaw pain, headaches, and excessive tooth wear (bruxism).

Aligners can help you achieve a straighter, healthier smile, whether you are a teenager or an adult.

Schedule a consultation with our orthodontist to determine if aligners are the right option for you and take the first step toward a confident, beautiful smile.
